![]() ![]() This modern and narrow keypad ensures that users take their time when it comes to code entry. If all else fails, you can pop open the front face of the lock and use a good old-fashioned metal key. You can lose your phone or keys, and you can forget a key code, but your finger goes where you go. The feature is easy to set up, and in my tests, it worked flawlessly. But the fastest (and most fun) option is the fingerprint reader, which allows for two stored fingerprints per user. There’s also an Apple Watch app, which I found handy when my phone was tucked away in a pocket. If you have to open the app to use it, why not just manually tap the unlock button? That’s great on paper, but the execution is flawed: Whenever the Ultraloq app retreats to the background, Magic Shake remains active for only five minutes. ![]() Less impressive is Magic Shake: When you rock your phone back and forth, it triggers the unlock command. The U-Bolt Pro Wi-Fi supports an impressive half-dozen methods of locking and unlocking, ranging from the physical to the electronic. ![]() One of the best features of the Ultraloq is that it can be used with the fingerprint reader, the numeric keypad, or with a traditional lock and key. What we like There are multiple ways to use the lock ![]() The lock is rated IP65-rated against dust and water and can withstand temperatures ranging from -22 to 149 degrees. I found it refreshingly easy to use, with straightforward sections for adding users, checking activity logs, and modifying various settings. Once configured, U-tec’s app, available for iOS and Android, took just a few seconds to connect to the lock for me. One thing to be aware of, as is the case with many smart-home devices, the lock does not support dual-band Wi-Fi and requires a 2.4GHz internet connection. You can scan a QR code to access it on your phone or use the provided URL. There's also a walkthrough video that’s mentioned right at the start. The instructions are written clearly alongside helpful illustrations to guide you along. This might take longer if the lock is going into a new door and/or frame. Because I didn’t need to drill out a hole or make any adjustments to the door strike, I was able to complete the process in about 20 minutes. Assuming you’re replacing an existing deadbolt on a fairly standard door, you should find the U-Bolt easy to install. Installing the U-Bolt Pro Wi-FI smart lock is a simple process.
